15 Hay River Public Meeting Regarding Indigenous Represent

In August, the Standing Committee on Government Operations will hold public meetings in Hay River, Kátł’odeeche First Nation and Délı̨nę to talk to residents about two issues: Indigenous recruitment and retention in the public service; and the Official Languages Act. The Committee wants to know the public’s thoughts on how Indigenous recruitment and retention could be improved for the public service, as well as what is and isn’t working well for promoting, honouring, and protecting the Official Languages of the Northwest Territories.

Members of the public and media are warmly invited to share their thoughts with the Committee at one of the following community meetings:

Monday, August 15 at 7:00PM – Hay River – Soaring Eagle Friendship Centre

Tuesday, August 16 at 11:30AM – Kátł’odeeche First Nation – Chief Lamalice Complex – Meal provided

Wednesday, August 24 at 6:00PM – Délı̨nę - Cultural Centre – Meal Provided

Indigenous representation in the public service is being reviewed because the Committee selected that issue as its priority for the remainder of the Assembly.

The Official Languages Act is being reviewed because it is within the Act’s legislation that it must be reviewed by the Legislative Assembly every five years.

There will be interpretation services in each community’s predominantly spoken Official Languages on offer to the attendees.

While the meetings will be open to the public, they will not be broadcast.
