Legislative Assembly Launches Educational Videos

YELLOWKNIFE (November 25, 2021) – The Speaker of the Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly, the Hon. Frederick Blake Jr., is pleased to present two educational videos that teach residents about how a bill becomes a law and the three branches of government.

The videos, offered in English and French, were produced locally and created for the enjoyment of all NWT residents. The Speaker particularly looks forward to the videos being used as learning resources for students learning about the Territory’s consensus-style government.

“Students in the Northwest Territories have long had questions about how consensus government works. Our legislature is unique in Canada,” says Speaker Frederick Blake Jr. “These videos are meant to illustrate some of the complex processes that govern how we live and work in the Northwest Territories. It is my hope that adults and youth alike can gain a greater understanding of our Territory’s governance through these videos.”

Teachers and user groups of all kinds are welcome to schedule classroom or virtual visits with Legislative Assembly staff where the videos can be presented followed by a question-and-answer session.

The videos can be found on the Assembly’s YouTube page or at ntassembly.ca/education.
