Media Statement on behalf of the Speaker of the Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly

YELLOWKNIFE (August 30, 2021) – The Speaker of the Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly, the Honourable Frederick Blake Jr., has issued the following statement:

In response to Mr. Norn and Ms. Latour’s statements regarding the independent third-party investigation into allegations of harassment and/or misconduct, I am disappointed that they have dismissed outright the conclusions of the Summary Report without having reviewed the Workplace Review and Investigation reports. To be clear, both parties have made broad sweeping allegations of misconduct and have failed to provide any credible evidence to prove those allegations.

In the Board of Management’s Media Statement released on August 26, 2021, it was stated that, in addition to the Summary Report, further information would be released following a confidentiality review. The Board had hoped to release the Summary Report, the Workplace Review Report, and the Investigation Report at the same time; however, the Board chose to release the Summary Report immediately to address inaccurate information circulating.

The Workplace Review Report and Investigation Report will be released once redactions are complete. This is to protect the privacy of third parties. The Summary Report provides a snapshot of the results of the reports completed by Quintet Consulting Corporation; I am hopeful that the release of the redacted reports will provide clarity for the parties involved as staff, the public, and the media.

Quintet Consulting Corporation has expertise in conducting administrative investigations and reviews. The review and investigation process carried out by Quintet was thorough, independent, and impartial.
