Members of the Legislative Assembly Withdraw Revocation Motion

YELLOWKNIFE (May 29, 2020) – Members of the 19th Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly have withdrawn the Motion to remove a Minister from the Executive Council.

The Standing Committee on Accountability and Oversight, comprised of the 11 Regular Members, today met with Premier Cochrane and Minister Nokleby to discuss issues surrounding the Notice of Motion introduced in the House on May 27, 2020.

“After an honest and open conversation, I am convinced the Minister understands the concerns of Regular Members and that the Executive Council will take the appropriate actions to address our concerns,” said Mr. Norn.

“This is still a new government, with many new Members, and we were still in the process of figuring out how to work effectively with each other when COVID-19 occurred. Minister Nokleby and I have heard from Members and I can assure you that all Cabinet Ministers are committed to working together with all Members of the Legislative Assembly on behalf of NWT residents and will continue to find ways to improve our working relationships and collaboration,” said Premier Cochrane.
