Standing Committee on Economic Development and Environment Reviewing Bill 7 An Act to Amend the Revolving Funds Act

(YELLOWKNIFE) Monday, September 26, 2016 - The Standing Committee on Economic Development and Environment seeks public input on legislation impacting Yellowknife Airport operations. Bill 7 An Act to Amend the Revolving Funds Act would establish a revolving fund for the Yellowknife Airport.

This special purpose fund would allow the Yellowknife Airport to operate as proposed in the business plan now posted on the Department of Transportation’s website.

Bill 7 was referred to the Committee on June 27 and the business plan was received on September 12, 2016.

“The business plan is critical to understanding the implications of amending the Revolving Funds Act.  Now that we have the business plan, the Committee process can get fully underway.  We want all Northerners to know that we are doing a thorough review and want to hear their input,” said Cory Vanthuyne, Chair.

The Committee plans to seek an extension to allow more time to consider the impacts of the legislation with members of the public, recognizing that the proposed changes affect all travelers through the Yellowknife Airport.

The Standing Committee reviews legislation referred to it by the Legislative Assembly. Gathering public feedback is a key part of its review of the proposed amendments to the Revolving Funds Act before the Committee reports back to the Assembly on the Bill.
