(YELLOWKNIFE) Thursday, March 28, 2019 - The Standing Committee on Economic Development and Environment is launching its review of seven Bills related to management of land and resources to the Northwest Territories:

Bill 34: Mineral Resources Act
Bill 36: An Act to Amend the Petroleum Resources Act
Bill 37: An Act to Amend the Oil and Gas Operations Act
Bill 38: Protected Areas Act
Bill 39: Environmental Rights Act
Bill 44: Forest Act
Bill 46: Public Land Act

The Committee will travel to communities throughout the territory in April, May, and June, in addition to its hearings in Yellowknife.

Cory Vanthuyne, Chair of the Committee, says Members know how important these proposed laws are to the future of the NWT.

“These Bills deal with governing public lands, environmental protection, oil and gas regulation and mining, and wise use of resources. Despite the short time remaining in this Assembly, the Committee wants to be sure that stakeholders and the general public can provide their views and take part in public hearings. We also welcome written submissions.”

Updates on public consultations will be posted on the Legislative Assembly’s website, Twitter and Facebook pages.  All meetings are open to the public and media are welcome to attend.
All Bills are available on the Legislative Assembly websitewww.assembly.gov.nt.ca.
