Standing Committee on Economic Development and Environment Briefing on Bill 74: Forest Act
 
Yellowknife (Tuesday, April 25) – The Standing Committee on Economic Development and Environment, chaired by Jackie Jacobson, will receive a public briefing regarding Bill 74: Forest Act from the Honourable Shane Thompson, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, as well as representatives from the Intergovernmental Council on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 1:00PM in the Eagle Room of the Legislative Assembly building.
 
The Bill proposes changes to the following areas: sustainable forest management; wildfire, and the protection of forests, communities and values at risk; and the roles and responsibilities of the Government, Minister, Renewable Resources Boards, Renewable Resources Councils and forest management committees.

Bill 74 is the first piece of legislation the Government has advanced in accordance with the Intergovernmental Council regarding land and resource management under the recently signed Legislative Development Protocol.
