Standing Committee on Social Development Seeking Input of Bill 72: Opioid Damages and Health Care Costs Recovery Act
YELLOWKNIFE (Monday, April 17, 2023) – The Standing Committee on Social Development, chaired by Caitlin Cleveland, is holding a public hearing meeting on Bill 72: Opioid Damages and Health Care Costs Recovery Act.
Bill 72 provides a statutory basis for the GNWT to sue manufacturers and distributors of opioids, to recover costs from opioid related harms in the NWT on an aggregate basis, while protecting the identity of individuals.

A public meeting with Hay River stakeholders will be held on Tuesday April 18th at 10:30am. A public hearing will be held on Wednesday April 19th at 12:00 noon and is open to the public and members of the media. The meeting will also be broadcast live and can be viewed by tuning in to the LATV network, watching on ntassembly.ca, or by watching on the Assembly’s Facebook, YouTube or Twitter channels.

The Committee also welcomes written submission from individuals and families to ensure the voices of Northerners are heard. Written submissions can be provided to the Committee Clerk at committees@ntassembly.ca until April 28, 2023.
