Tłı̨chǫ Language Added to Legislative Assembly’s Audio Tour

(YELLOWKNIFE) Tuesday, February 28, 2023 – The Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly is pleased to announce the addition of the Tłı̨chǫ language to the self-guided audio tour, in celebration of Indigenous Language Month. This marks a significant step towards language revitalization and advancing reconciliation.

The Tłı̨chǫ audio tour is available on the “Smartify” App for mobile phones. To take the tour, users download the Smartify app and can find the Tłı̨chǫ version of the Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly audio tour in Smartify’s tour inventory.

The duration of the tour is 30 minutes. The Tłı̨chǫ tour is translated and narrated by Elder and legislative interpreter Maro Sundberg.

The tour touches on Northwest Territories history, the Mace, the architecture of the building, the basics of consensus government and even includes a story or two. The audio tour aims to inform the public about the Legislative Assembly while also giving them a warm northerner’s welcome to “The Place of the People”.

Members of the public can take the self-guided audio tour anytime the building is open. The building is open to the public from 7:00AM to 6:00PM on weekdays and 10:00AM to 6:00PM on weekends.

The Legislative Assembly thanks all who assisted with the addition of the Tłı̨chǫ language to the audio tour.
