Tu Nedhé-Wiilideh MLA Withdraws from Special Committee on Reconciliation and Indigenous Affairs

(YELLOWKNIFE) Thursday, November 5, 2020 – Steve Norn, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Tu Nedhé-Wiilideh, has forfeited his spot as a Member of the Special Committee on Reconciliation and Indigenous Affairs.

The Special Committee was established on Monday, November 2, 2020 in the Legislative Assembly. The Committee’s membership must include two Members from the Executive Council and three Regular Members.

“After consulting with Chiefs from my constituency, and upon reflection, I have decided to offer my spot on this Special Committee to the Member for Thebacha, Frieda Martselos. In Indigenous culture, we greatly value experience and wisdom. Frieda has been engaging in activities of this nature for much longer than I have, and I would like to respect that. I will be pleased to see her share her wealth of knowledge and expertise in this Special Committee,” says Steve Norn.

“I look forward to being a Member of this Committee,” says Frieda Martselos. “I will bring my leadership, my past experiences as Chief of Salt River First Nation, and my listening skills forward to this Committee. We will accomplish great work here.”
