Human Rights Adjudication Panel Members

The Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly requests Expressions of Interest for Human Rights Adjudication Panel Members.

The Human Rights Adjudication Panel is an independent tribunal with the authority to hear and adjudicate complaints referred to it pursuant to the NWT Human Rights Act. Qualified applicants must be a member in good standing of at least five years of a law society of a province or territory, or have at least five years' experience as a member of an administrative tribunal or a court.

Members of the Adjudication Panel are paid an honorarium as determined by the Legislative Assembly.

Applications should include a resume or curriculum vitae, three references and a cover letter explaining your qualifications and why you are interested in being a Member of the Human Rights Adjudication Panel.

The Legislative Assembly is looking to fill multiple upcoming vacancies and appoint a Chair for this Panel.

Chief Electoral Officer

The Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly requests Expressions of Interest for the position of Chief Electoral Officer.

The Chief Electoral Officer is a Statutory Officer of the Legislative Assembly, responsible for the administration of all general elections and plebiscites in the NWT. The Chief Electoral Officer is also responsible for the administration of the Elections and Plebiscites Act, for establishing policies and procedures pertaining to elections and plebiscites, for managing the Register of Territorial Electors, and for providing training and guidance to electoral officers. This position is not a GNWT public service position.

The Chief Electoral Officer is entitled to rights, privileges and benefits, including remuneration and pension benefits, similar to the entitlements of Assistant Deputy Ministers. Remuneration will be based on qualifications and experience, with the successful candidate negotiating a service contract with the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. This is a full-time position.

Electoral Boundaries Commission

The Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories requests Expressions of Interest for positions on the Electoral Boundaries Commission.

An Electoral Boundaries Commission, constituted under the Electoral Boundaries Commission Act, is responsible for reviewing and recommending on the area, boundaries, name and representation of Northwest Territories electoral districts. As of 2020, the Commission also reviews the way the Premier gets elected and the composition of Cabinet. The Commission holds public hearings and informs the public about the values, principles and process of determining electoral boundaries. 

The Chairperson must be a judge or retired judge of the Supreme Court or of the Court of Appeal. Electoral Boundaries Commission Members cannot be Members of the NWT Legislative Assembly or of a municipal council.

Interested candidates may submit an Expression of Interest to the Legislative Assembly for consideration.  The Expression of Interest should include a summary of the candidate’s interest, qualifications and experience in serving in a similar position and be sent to:
